Playing on Bluebetz should stay something you choose to do, not something that starts choosing for you. This page sets out what that means in practice – the signs worth watching for, the tools our account tools give you, and where to turn if things feel harder to control than they used to. It applies to everyone using the site, and it is written for players aged 18 and over (18+) only.
Why responsible gambling matters
Gambling is entertainment. It carries real cost, it carries genuine risk of loss on every single bet, and neither Bluebetz nor anyone else can turn it into a reliable source of income. Treating it as anything other than a leisure activity – a way to cover a bill, chase a bad month, or solve a money problem – is where the trouble usually starts. We would rather a player read this section once, honestly, than skip straight to the bonus terms.
Signs gambling is getting out of hand
These are concrete behaviours, not vague feelings. Watch for any of the following becoming a pattern rather than a one-off:
- Chasing a loss with a bigger stake to try to win it back the same session
- Borrowing money, or dipping into money set aside for bills, to keep playing
- Lying to a partner, family member or friend about how much time or money has gone into gambling
- Feeling irritable, anxious or low when you try to cut back
- Losing track of time and missing work, sleep or other commitments because of it
Questions worth asking yourself
None of these is a diagnosis on its own – but if you find yourself answering "yes" to several, it is worth acting on now rather than later.
- Have you gambled with money you needed for something else?
- Have you tried to win back a loss on the same day it happened?
- Have you gambled longer than you planned to, more than once?
- Have you hidden the amount you spend from people close to you?
- Has anyone told you they're worried about how much you play?
- Do you feel restless or short-tempered when you're not gambling?
The tools Bluebetz offers
We give you two direct controls over your own account. A self-exclusion can be requested by sending a message to our support team from your registered email address, and it locks the account for a minimum of six months once it takes effect – which happens within 24 hours of us receiving the request. It is not reversible early, and that is deliberate: a cooling head at the six-month mark is a different thing to a cooling head the next morning.
If you want a shorter break rather than a long one, we also run a 7-day cooling-off period, which pauses your account without the longer commitment of full self-exclusion. Either option is requested the same way – a message to [email protected] from the email on file.
Practical limits that work
Small habits do more than good intentions. A few worth building in before you play, not after:
- Decide the amount you're prepared to lose before you start, and treat it as spent the moment it's staked
- Set a time limit and use a phone alarm rather than trusting yourself to notice
- Avoid playing when you've been drinking, or when you're stressed about money
- Never treat a deposit as a loan you're about to repay from a win
- Take the 7-day break at the first point you're tempted to chase a loss, not the fifth
Since April 2025, UK law has also capped stakes on online slot games specifically – £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over, and £2 per spin for 18–24s. That cap applies to online slots and not to roulette, blackjack or other table formats, and it is a useful benchmark for what a sensible single stake looks like even outside the products it covers.
Where to get help in the UK
Free, confidential support exists whether or not you ever ask us for anything. GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, free and available 24 hours a day. BeGambleAware offers advice and support tools online, and GamStop is the UK's national self-exclusion scheme, covering six months, one year or five years across licensed sites in one registration. For more intensive, residential support, Gordon Moody works specifically with gambling addiction.
Blocking software
If self-control tools on an account aren't enough on their own, device-level blocking closes the gap. Gamban and BetBlocker (free, multi-platform) both block gambling sites at the device level, which helps on the days willpower alone doesn't.
Protecting minors
Bluebetz is restricted to players aged 18 and over (18+), with no exceptions. If you share a device – a laptop, a tablet, a phone – with anyone under that age, parental-control software such as Net Nanny or Qustodio adds a layer of protection beyond simply logging out. Age verification during account setup is part of how we hold that line, but a shared device at home is still worth locking down separately.
If any of this raises a question about your own account, or someone else's, our team can be reached at [email protected].
Gambling should be entertainment, not a chore.
This site is for players aged 18 and over (18+) only. If gambling ever stops feeling like entertainment, free and confidential help is available at BeGambleAware.org.
